What these data can and cannot tell us
They can show
- How much visitors spend, as the state's own study reports it, and who made the study.
- What state parks charge for entry. Camping and other paid uses are listed apart.
- How the fish and wildlife agency is funded, where its reports break that out.
- How large the economy is, and how its output spreads across industries.
They can't show
- Rank states or give one overall score. We never add the sections together.
- Show that tourism promotion caused visitor spending.
- Compare total impact figures across states. Each study uses its own model.
- Say how resilient an economy is. Industry spread describes structure only.
- Fill a blank. Every blank gives its reason, and a blank is never a zero.
Open a value to see its source, or the inputs it was calculated from. The letter after it is its comparability grade. A is safest to compare, and D never is. An orange year means the value is from a year other than 2024.
